Acadia

Acadia, shrouded Canada,
Filled with sorrow and isolated
On some Atlantic fields, misty.
When you go to the house of Acadians,
You hear from the distance,
“Pourquoi ne pas cette fonction, chalice ici!”

Some old man of Acadia, you are.
You fish on Saturdays out in the Atlantic,
And gather cod for a Sunday feast.
Then on the weekday you sit in your chair
And wonder over each thing you had done.
They all sit alone there, Acadia.

And then I hear the teenager say
“Tabernak, eh?
Je ne peux pas prendre
Une bière avec vous ce soir,
Mon femmene
Sera pas ferme le bouche.”
